Following his passing, many things will be written about Jean “Mœbius” Giraud. They will undoubtedly, and very deservedly so, all celebrate his immense talent and the powerful impact of his body of work.
It is therefore not necessary for me to add to this by looking too deep into the well of the many memories, anecdotes, and experiences that have linked us. So many things occured since I first met, in early 1989, with the man, who alongside Dionnet and Druillet, had founded some 15 years earlier the publishing house that I had just acquired, Les Humanoïdes Associés.
What surfaces above all is the image of a man who, in a way to escape painful situations, was able to immerse himself amidst a creative energy that bordered on the sublime and that only very few have ever visited.
At its best, Moebius's art can no longer be compared to any others', it is no longer only representation. It simply becomes pure, unadulterated energy.
His works, such as The Airthight Garage or The Incal, are considered major achievements in the international world of comics. They make up the foundation upon which Les Humanoïdes Associés / Humanoids' catalog was built, and are an essential part of its soul. And forever will be.
