Humanoids Japan Launch Party
Humanoids enjoyed a successful launch party this past Friday in Tokyo for the roll-out of its Japanese brand. In attendance were authors (including Katsuhiro Otomo), fellow Japanese publishers, booksellers, and journalists. With the set-up of this new outpost, many titles out of Humanoids' catalog will be now offered in Japan and new projects will be developed in collaboration with Japanese creators.
Katsuhiro Otomo, pictured here with Humanoids publisher Fabrice Giger, pays homage to Mœbius and his Major Grubert character.
Unfabulous Five - Behind the Mask
A lot of work goes into a book from the time of its conception all the way until you're holding it in your hands. Below are several pages and cover to illustrate how a book evolves from sketches to the finished product.
Enjoy the work of Bill as we offer a glimpse behind the scenes.
Our Lucha Libre heroes springboard into stores on June 25.

Unfabulous Five - Coming June 25
Story by Jerry Frissen, art by Bill
Lucha Libre, the Mexican art of wrestling, has made its way to Southern California in the form of the Luchadores Five, a gang unlike any other. Their mission is to clean up the East Los Angeles community they live in. But despite their best attempts to get rid of crime in their hometown, "The Unfabulous 5," as they are sometimes known, are regularly arrested by the police, roughed up by a myriad of other gangs, and ridiculed by the public and their loved ones. It is within this rich Lucha Libre universe, with all its eccentric yet lovable characters, that the social issues of today are addressed in imaginative and hysterical ways.
Quicks facts about Unfabulous Five:
• Jerry Frissen has created an entire universe filled with Lucha Libre style characters. Unfabulous Five is set in the same universe as the previously released The Tikitis.
• Bill is part of a trio of artists that includes Gobi and Fabien M. All whom have contributed to the Lucha Libre universe.
• Frissen was originally inspired to create the Lucha Libre universe after coming across a short story from Bill, titled The Fight that appeared in Métal Hurlant.
• Bill set the stage by studiously creating all the character designs, making sure each character stood out on their own.
• Unfabulous Five is a blending of a myriad of styles, one of which is a manga influence. It should be of no surprise then that this title will be one of the first releases of Humanoids in Japan.
