Last week we said goodbye to one of the most beloved and talented members of the Humanoids family: Juan Giménez. Alongside writer Alejandro Jodorowsky, the inimitable artist of The Metabarons had the power to channel blood-soaked galaxies on 12.5-inch x 9.5-inch sheets of paper. He effortlessly conceived generations of warriors at once primal and svelte, populating a fearsome galaxy that became an immortal staple of iconic science fiction. In honor of his legacy, we're continuing to offer the first volume of The Metabarons to read for free as well as Giménez's debut work—Leo Roa, the comedic saga of a newbie journalist fumbling through the galaxy.

In addition to those foundational works, the cosmic thriller EXO from writer Jerry Frissen and artist Philippe Scoffoni will keep you suspended in the treacherous heavens. The definition of timely, EXO revolves around a planet—Darwin II—that offers the same life-fostering circumstances as earth. Whether that life is worth discovering is another issue, as an intelligent, elusive virus takes hold.

And last but certainly not least, a sample of Luisa: Now and Then by Carole Maurel and translated by Mariko Tamaki (This One Summer) is now available. A touching and honest bildungsroman with a fantastic flourish, the graphic novel connects a teenage girl with her apathetic adult self on a personal quest for identity. Luisa: Now and Then was recently named an Honor Book by the Global Libraries in Literature Initiative.
