May 12, 2020 The White Lama
Some of us are feeling the blossoming warmth of the May sun. Most of us? We've been plunged into a seasonally absurd cold front, hijacked into a wintry time machine. Either way, we're still fighting our way through more than two months of global cabin fever. And each week Humanoids is still devoted to providing free reads curated from our extensive international library.
Our batch this week mirrors the hot-and-cold contrast outside our walls. First, The White Lama by the legendary Alejandro Jodorowsky and artist Georges Bess provides a metaphysical journey through the sub-zero mountains of Tibet. If you're looking for something warmer and more buoyant, Jerry Frissen and Bill's Unfabulous Five takes a lovable band of luchadores to southern California, where they attempt to put a number of societal ills in a suplex. Last but not least, the award-winning District 14 from Pierre Gabus and Romuald Reutimann pays homage to the strips of the Golden Age, where a bustling menagerie of animals navigates the power, money, and friction of a feverish city. If you like these introductory volumes, dive into the rest of the series, and check back next week for another delivery of free reading.
