Model Sophie reflects on a series of events involving her and her two best friends, Michelle, and in particular Selene, when they were sixteen that ended up culminating in tragedy.
Supermodel Sophie seems to have it all, until she gets an email about an old friend that makes her question what she stands for as she remembers the events of her teenage years.
Selene was independent and loyal, intelligent and imaginative, fearless and rebellious. She was a feminist, a stoner, and a girl ahead of her time. And when they were sixteen, she was the shy and nerdy Sophie's best friend. The girls, along with their other friends, would spend hours in intricate worlds of their own imagining in order to escape the sexism, bullying, and violence in their real world. But as the real world comes crashing in, an inescapable chain of events is set off which results in a string of tragedies.
This coming-of-age story is tough and touching, presenting a complex picture of girlhood.
